THE NEW YORK CONDITIONAL LICENSE

If you receive your first conviction for Drunk Driving and you participate in the Drinking Driver Program (DDP), you can receive a conditional license. The law mandates participation in the DDP, even if the driver is not eligible for a conditional license, for convictions of specific alcohol or drug-related violations, or in specific plea-bargaining situations.

You must wait 30 days from the date of your arrest to apply for a conditional license. Once you receive it, think of it as a proationary license. It will be revoked if you are convicted of a moving violation as well as a seatbelt ticket. A person is only eleigible to get the conditional license every 5 years and without one you cannot drive.
